Experience in confined space work and in fitting the Amex-10-Seal for internal pipe repairs ensured the success in solving a problem at Thames Water's High Wycombe sewage treatment works. Working under contract to Amec, drainage and civil engineering contractors Dragtone Ltd were installing a 1.5km pipeline when a leaking joint was discovered in a DN600 outlet pipe from a treatment tank. As the whole chamber was in concrete, excavating to the outlet pipe for an external repair was considered too costly, an urgent response team was sent to repair the leaking joint internally. An engineer used breathing apparatus while working in the extremely confined space, which was accessed through the DN600 pipe bend from the tank floor. The pipe joint was completely repaired according to schedule.
